Abu Dhabi industrial facilities run on people who are not on your payroll. Mussafah, KIZAD and ICAD sites carry contractors, delivery crews and visitors daily, and a system that only understands employees is a system that stops describing who is actually on site.
A contractor is not an employee, and the system has to know it
The default for a contractor credential should be that it expires. Staff credentials are open-ended and revoked on leaving; contractor credentials should be issued against a date, a sponsor inside the business and, where the site requires it, a valid safety induction — and should stop working on their own when any of those lapse.
Doing this manually is where it breaks. A pass issued for a two-week job that is never withdrawn is indistinguishable from a permanent credential six months later, and on a multi-contractor site there are hundreds of them.
Expiry by default
Contractor credentials issued against an end date, so lapsing is the normal behaviour rather than an admin task.
A sponsor inside the business
Every non-employee credential belongs to somebody who works here and is accountable for it.
Induction as a gate
Where the site requires a safety induction, the credential should not work before it and should stop when it expires.
Visitors handled separately
Short-lived passes with an escort rule, rather than borrowing somebody's card at reception.
Proving who was on site
The question that gets asked after an incident is who was inside, and it is asked at the muster point while people are still arriving there. A roll call assembled from a system that knows about staff but not contractors is not a roll call.
The same records answer the slower questions: who accessed the store on a night when stock was short, whether a contractor was on site on the date an invoice claims. Both depend on the logs being complete and on the retention period being long enough to still hold them, which is a decision to make deliberately rather than by default.
How an Abu Dhabi access control project runs with us
We survey first and produce a door schedule covering locking, fire behaviour and reader type per door, then establish the approval route before anything is drilled. Requirements are set by the emirate's own authorities rather than Dubai's, and industrial facilities carry the landlord's or zone's fit-out process on top of that.
Handover includes the parts that are usually skipped: the fire interface proven with the panel in alarm, the evacuation report produced and checked once with real data in it, and the contractor procedure written down.

Each door with its locking, fire behaviour and reader, so the quote has reasoning behind it.
Approval route established
Emirate requirements and zone or landlord fit-out consent confirmed before installation, not during it.
Evacuation report tested
Run once with real occupancy at handover. A report nobody has produced is not a report.
Contractor procedure documented
Issue, sponsorship, expiry and withdrawal written down, because this is the part that decays fastest.
